Today we’re talking about all things beachy, and more specifically, all things beach weddings in PEI. It’s probably clear from my website that I have a penchant for Prince Edward Island. It is hands down one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever had the opportunity to take photos of!

When you choose Prince Edward Island as your wedding location, there’s no wrong place to say I do. But when it comes to some of the best locations for PEI weddings, I have an even more particular penchant for PEI beaches! Some of the best beach wedding venues in PEI are not only visually stunning, but they are also affordable, adaptable, and amazingly well-run. 

While that alone might be enough to convince you that Prince Edward Island weddings hosted on sandy shores are the kind of weddings you’ve been dreaming about — but my plan today is to talk about two things: The specific PEI wedding venues that can absolutely make you and your special someone’s dreams come true, and why beach weddings in PEI can be a truly unique (and cost-effective) choice to make your dreams a reality. 

As a PEI wedding photographer, I’ve spent hours upon hours, leaving no stone unturned, to find the ideal venues for PEI wedding photography. The kind of venues that seem to have no wrong angles, with backgrounds that appear painted by hand because of their near-perfect appearance. These are the kinds of venues that are filled with big skies, sunsets, and vistas overlooking the ocean that seem to last into eternity. Much like the love, and lives, you are currently building together.

Why Should You Have A PEI Beach Wedding? 

The real question should be WHY NOT? There are tons of reasons to make your special day unforgettable by having a dreamy wedding on the beach. It’s the most pleasant blend of casual, relaxing, and scenic. It can be as big or as small as you’d like considering there’s quite a bit of real estate available on spacious, sandy shores. 

On top of all of that, a beach wedding gives you the chance to take all of your photos on the beach! Your wedding party, the ceremony, couples portraits, family portraits — all of it. They’ll have the vastness of the seas behind them, with the colors of sunset dancing along the waves. 

It’s a place where the untraditional can spread their wings and be creative with the planning in a unique space that not nearly as many people get married in — and the photos that come out of it are glorious. 

Wedding locations in PEI are more than plentiful, but there are some truly special spaces that are all sea-worthy for any special occasion — including your dream wedding. 

Can You Get Married On The Beach In PEI? 

Before we start talking about the variety of Prince Edward Island wedding venues, I thought it would be best to talk about the absolute best beach wedding venue. The beach itself! Getting married directly on the beach is such a fun, casual, and relaxing way to pledge the rest of your lives to each other. 

Picture it. The waves gently crash in the background as you read your vows. The sea spray misting your face as it carries lightly on the ocean breeze. It’s pretty darn idyllic if you think about it. So can you actually get married directly on the beach in PEI? 

The short answer is yes. 

The slightly longer answer is that you can absolutely get married on the beach, but in order to do so, you must obtain a permit at least two months in advance in order to get married on any of the land owned by the province. While the beach is certainly one of the most beautiful wedding venues in PEI, there are fantastic options to choose from that will give you the beach view, along with a few other amenities. 

PEI’s Most Unique Wedding Venues

When it comes to PEI wedding venues, there are quite a few to choose from. But when it comes to beach venues, these three that I’m recommending are all top-tier spaces that offer their own unique set of amenities, and tons of things to do to keep you and your wedding party constantly entertained and cared for!

Rodd Crowbush Golf And Beach Resort

The Rodd Hotels & Resorts community has 7 resorts sprinkled throughout Canada. When it comes to the ideal beach wedding venue, their Crowbush Golf and Beach Resort should be at the top of your list! 

The landscape is gorgeous and is a mixture of scenic and manicured thanks to the stunning golf course on the grounds. There are evergreen trees surrounding the property, and the lakeside beach is worthy of being featured on a postcard. The sunsets are never-ending, and provide the perfect setting to do sunset wedding couples photos! 

Honestly, Rodd Crowbush Golf and Beach Resort wedding photography is going to be pristine no matter where we choose to take the pictures. The lighting on the beach is always perfect, and the ceremony area on the beach is definitely something out of a dream. Guests can kick off their shoes, dig their feet into the sand, and even dip a toe or two in as you go. 

I also love the idea of being able to do the reception outdoors as well, and if you want to go that route, Caseley’s Rentals can be hired for anything from tents, tables, chairs, and more. 

Plus, due to its all-inclusive nature, the Crowbush offers plenty of getting-ready areas for your guests, as well as on-site cottages and hotel rooms if your wedding party needs to book for an extended stay. Nothing wrong with turning your wedding day into a wedding weekend! 

The Sunset Room

This is hands down one of the best beach wedding venues in PEI! There are so many reasons to love this place. As a photographer, the possibilities are nearly endless for Sunset Room wedding photography because the venue has 360 degrees of views! 

The ceremony, which is held on the waterfront of the Summerside area, offers the kind of backdrop that is photo worthy for a high-end wedding magazine. The wood deck looks like it extends directly into the water — and don’t even get me started on the golden hour here! Rocky shores, jewel-toned sunsets, and endless waves are a combination you can never go wrong with. 

The reception area is inside the venue itself, which is nothing but floor-to-ceiling windows and deep stained wood. It’s a clean slate that allows you and your partner to turn it into anything your wedding brain can dream. 

While there aren’t onsite cottages, there are a few awesome spots in nearby Cavendish or Summerside that we can use for your party to get ready. I’ve also managed to scout some gorgeous locations on the north shore that we can snap some portraits before the ceremony begins. 

On top of all that, the staff at The Sunset Room are amazing, and there are quite a few little towns that you can explore should you decide to make it an extended weekend. 

The Harris Church Cottage

This intimate wedding venue is the perfect mix of beach, ocean cliffs, and magical woods! With the added bonus of a gorgeous apple orchard that’s picture-perfect in the fall and full of blossoms in the spring, you have lots of options to hold your ceremony and reception! 

Harris Church Cottage wedding photography is so unique because of the variety of landscapes available here and the endless natural light — especially for beach ceremonies! I suggest a 2pm or sunset ceremony to capture some really beautiful tones (just note that the tide comes in more quickly around sunset). 

The owners of Harris Church Cottage are such sweethearts, and the whole staff is just as amenable and helpful — they’ll work their butts off to prepare the venue exactly as you’d like it! With centuries-old furnishings with loads of character and the church being restored to its former glory, this venue provides the best experience for small and intimate weddings.
