Say Yes! How To Find Your Perfect Wedding Dress In PEI
I
f you’re here, then you know that saying yes is one of the hardest decisions you can make. Of course, I don’t mean saying yes to your partner popping the question — that’s the easy part! The hard part is saying yes to the decision that comes after it. How to find your perfect wedding dress in PEI.
From reality TV shows dedicated to the very question to people whose entire career is built around trying to help you track down the perfect dress before your brain goes into meltdown mode, how to find the perfect dress is a question that has plagued us all for ages.
Luckily, there are plenty of tricks I’ve learned as a PEI wedding photographer that can help you find your perfect dress — from the best bridal shops PEI has to offer, to the most stunning PEI wedding photography spots to capture that perfect dress in the right light.
Things To Consider
Let’s start with a simple checklist — one that will help you think about the main things to consider when it comes to saying yes to the dress.
Movement
Don’t get me wrong, no one loves an ornately beaded mermaid-tail dress more than I do, but when it comes to a wedding dress, I like to advise my couples that movement is one of the biggest things you need to consider. A-line dresses are always a good choice as they’ll show off your curves in all the right ways while allowing for plenty of movement!
While it seems like your wedding day should be a quiet and relaxing day, in reality, you’re moving all over the place, sometimes at a frenetic pace. When it comes to picking the right fit, cut, and style, make sure to move around when you’re trying it on. Can you drop it like it’s hot? Do squats in it? Properly execute the chicken dance? If you can, then you’re well on your way to the perfect wedding dress.
Seasonal Choices
The kind of wedding dress you may want to pick might also depend on the season you’re saying I do. If a winter wonderland is your dream wedding (first off, I LOVE it) but secondly, you’re probably going to want to choose a dress that has a heavier fabric.
Maybe even one that can be secretly lined with a thin layer of fleece. Or one that looks good with a fantastic faux fur jacket over it! Conversely for the summer, picking a lighter fabric that breathes will help you feel as cool and comfortable as possible. Sleeves? Who needs ‘em?!
Be Prepared For Everything
When it comes to trying on your dress and choosing the final one, make sure that you consider what kind of shoes you’ll be wearing on the big day. Maybe put your hair up, or add a little more make up into your routine than you normally would when shopping.
The key to making the moment and dress feel right is being able to envision yourself on your big day — these are simple but effective ways to achieve that vision!
Trust Your Gut!
It can feel easy to second guess yourself when it comes to your wedding dress choices, but in reality, you know better than anyone what is going to make you feel your most beautiful — and in the end that is what matters the most.
If you find that dress that your heart just squeals about, then that’s the one. Don’t question it.

Where To Find The Best Wedding Dresses In PEI
Like a snowflake, bridal shops in PEI can be uniquely different. While there’s nothing wrong with walking into the first shop and finding the one, I still suggest making a weekend of it — and doing a tour of a few of the different shops in the area! None of them will have the same inventory which means that you will have plenty of options to choose from before making the final decision.
There are some amazing shops for wedding dresses in Charlottetown, Kensington, and really everywhere in PEI. To help though, I’ve put together a quick list that you can start with. Take a look at these fantastic shops!
